[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Louisville, KY January 2017 E&S Gallery, Inc. is pleased to present a special art show and exhibit honoring two of the most beloved and respected icons in modern history, Muhammad Ali and Nelson Mandela. This historic exhibit “The Measure of Men: From Trials To Triumph” open Friday, February 3rd with a special sneak preview from 10 am to 4 pm, followed by the opening reception from 4 to 8 pm, at E&S Gallery, located at 108 S. 10th Street. The event is free and open to the public.

 

The exhibit features original lithographs by Nelson Mandela from several print series he created after his release from prison, including “Touch of Mandela”, “My Robben Island, II” and “Impressions of Africa” as well as originals drawings and fine art serigraphs created by Muhammad Ali in the late 1970’s. The exhibit will include the premiere of a new limited edition series by nationally renowned collage artist, Leroy Campbell, titled “Never Give Up.” The series, created by nationally renowned collage artist Leroy Campbell, is a in tribute to Muhammad Ali and features images of everyday people wearing boxing gloves. The prominent and permanent part of the exhibit will be the unveiling of a special art installation honoring Muhammad Ali titled “Float Like A Butterfly.” The larger than life installation was created by Louisville native, artist Charles Rice through a special commission by E&S Gallery founder, Walter Shannon. “I wanted to have a permanent tribute to the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali,” said Shannon “I have a great deal of respect and admiration for him.” Most of the items are from private collections and not for sale, but several pieces will be available for purchase. Charles Rice will be on hand during the reception to discuss the installation and offer insight to various aspects of the design.

 

The Measure of Men: From Trials to Triumph will run from February 3rd, through Friday, March 17th. “We’re excited to be able to share this amazing collection for the first time right here in our community” said Marketing Director, Cathy Shannon. “These series have been exhibited in fine art galleries and museums across Europe, Africa, and the U.S. and this will be the first time the images have been shown in Kentucky,” she added.
